 Dance & DRAMA

 

Our Saturday holiday intensives with our wonderful team of dance and drama tutors are currently paused due to building works and maintenance at JAGS. The last holiday course took place in August 2022 and we anticipate a return in 2026.

Below will give you a flavour of our most recent course for 8-14 year olds: PLAY IN A WEEK AUGUST 22: An Adaptation of Wind in the Willows 

An original retelling of Kenneth William’s classic tale, Wind in the Willows. Working within the framework of this classic tale our course explored stories that were both wonderfully rich and familiar.

  • We created our own version of well-loved riverside characters, from shy Mole who finds bravery, Toad and his unquenchable thirst for thrill-seeking and Ratty who has a love affair with the river!
  • We learnt to perform your own fight sequence, explore comic and dramatic ensemble work and brought sections of the story to life with script work. 
  • We spent a wonderful week immersed in a creative process with a group of like-minded young actors and our fantastic team of directors: Lily Cooper (Drama), El Henderson (Drama) Amy Lovelock (Dance) and Robert Zuric (Drama).
  • The course culminated with an original performance showcasing all that had been achieved over the week. 

When we re-launch 'Play in a Week' courses they will be open to all budding performers! No experience or audition required. Groups are split by age and will work towards creating an original piece to include choreographed movement and drama.  A piece will be performed on the final day in our on-site, purpose-built theatre.

Dates: Always a whole week, either the 3rd or 4th week in August
Performance: 5.15pm on the last day of course 
2022 Fees:£245/pupil (sibling discount £205) Includes morning refreshments, lunch and end of course performance costs, including tickets.
Venue: JAGS, 144 East Dulwich Grove, SE22 8TE
What to wear: All pupils are to arrive dressed in trainers, t-shirt, leggings/joggers.
Working together: Pupils will be grouped according to age but can request to be with friends of a similar age.
